Based in New York City, Dr. Heidi Chu was born in Hong Kong and travelled throughout the world her whole life, driven by her passion for music.

As a child, she never imagined to have an international career in music or even becoming a musician. But Dr. Heidi Chu’s fate had decided otherwise, when she received her first piano at age 5, from one of her dad’s best friends, who moved to Japan and had to get rid of his. It all started from there.

In Hong Kong, piano had always been an after-school activity that Heidi enjoyed and was good at. Playing piano helped her gain confidence as a young girl.

Heidi’s parents wanted her to have a good education and because she wanted to see the world, they sent her to the USA as an exchange student right after High School, to study economics. They were far from knowing their daughter’s growing passion and her ambition to become a musician. Heidi’s first contact with the U.S. music scene confirmed her choice : from Economics, she switched to music the second year.

Facing a tougher competition than in Hong Kong, Heidi worked even harder. Her efforts rapidly paid off, as Dr. Heidi Chu won her first award in 2007 : the John Irwin Piano…
